A shared itinerary means shared timing
The TAIHOU shared trip visits the shrine, ropeway and volcanic valley before continuing to Fuji-area stops. A guide coordinates the route, which reduces planning, but your family follows the group’s return times. A child who needs a long lunch break or a quiet afternoon may find a shorter route easier.
The cruise is optional and costs extra. If the ship is the part your children are most excited about, include its cost when comparing reservations. The operator provides a vehicle transfer for travelers who skip the crossing; check how that choice works for your party on the day.
Seats and meals need an explicit check
The H.I.S. rail-return tour states that under-3s can join without a bus seat or lunch, and directs customers to the child rate when those are needed. Do not read “free” as a reserved seat. Select the actual ages and option so the confirmation matches your family’s requirements.
Lunch on that listing is option-dependent. On the two shared ropeway tours, meals are extra. Pack what is useful for the day but respect vehicle rules: TAIHOU does not allow eating on the bus, and Clover lists food and drinks in the vehicle as prohibited. Plan snacks around stops rather than assuming they can be eaten during transfers.
A private car gives you different choices
The Mount Fuji Discoveries private car advertises a group fare for up to six and hotel pickup subject to address confirmation. Select Hakone itinerary B and discuss a focused route, rather than trying to fit all optional Fuji and Hakone stops into the same day.
Ask about the vehicle, child seats, stroller space and luggage before paying. Give the children’s ages and the number of adults. A maximum passenger count alone does not establish that the arrangement fits a stroller and your bags. The listing’s private format is a starting point for that conversation, not a substitute for it.
Match attractions to the family’s energy
Decide whether the day is mainly about the lake and rides, a shrine visit or a slower cultural stop. The H.I.S. train option replaces the final highway leg but requires independent station navigation and non-reserved seating from Odawara; sitting together is not guaranteed.
